RollerAds Unveils Direct Click: See It in Action!

Direct Click is a new RollerAds’ ad format designed to boost conversions. For years, they have been specializing in Push notifications and Pop ads, but now this ad network is actively using their expertise to establish new ways to convert leads.

Direct Click is their latest invention, aimed at engaging users through deliberate interactions with high-traffic website elements. For example, when a user clicks on “Exit” or "Download,” a new window or tab pops to redirect to the advertiser’s offer page. Surprisingly, this approach does bring in engaged users, and we’re here to reveal the details of their latest case study, based on Direct Click.

Direct Click Explained

Direct Click functions like a pop-up window or tab and is triggered when users deliberately click on a website element and wait for the result, which increases user engagement.

Moreover, due to its nature and underlying principles, Direct Click eliminates the need to make additional creatives and ease up the load on your tracker, streamlining the funnel. This ad format is available for CPC-based campaigns (including SmartCPC) on RollerAds. Couple Direct Click with other features on their platform for ultimate performance and convenience.

How to Launch a Direct Click Campaign

Here’s a quick example to show you how easy it is to get started. In this short video, Pierre Bertin, Head of International Business Development at RollerAds, is testing a VPN offer targeting Tier-1 GEOs (USA, UK, Australia, Canada) with payouts of up to $8. Let’s watch:

Direct Click in Practice

For those of you who want to see Direct Click in action and some numbers first, we are sharing RollerAds’ case study. Let’s start with the overview of their campaign settings:

  • Vertical: Utilities

  • Category: VPN

  • GEO: US 🇺🇸 (Tier-1)

  • OS & versions: iOS 16+

  • Payout: $10

To avoid setting unrealistic expectations, RollerAds refuses to share the exact name of the offer. However, you can find similar offers on CpaRoll or any other affiliate network and match the results of the case study against them to get an idea of how much you can earn.

Creating a Direct Click Campaign

RollerAds has an intuitive and self-service interface. Still, we decided to include the algorithm of how to start working there just in case.

  1. In their dashboard on your left, click to create a new campaign.

  2. Among ad formats available, pick “Direct Click” and your bid model of choice (we recommend “SmartCPC” for testing).

  1. Name your campaign and enter Target URL.

  1. Based on the offer details, pick your GEO and enable proxy if necessary (the US and “No Proxy” in this case).

  1. Enter your bid in case of CPC or adjust a slider to fine-tune the bidding algorithm for SmartCPC. You can also set up the upper threshold to keep your budget in check. It’s always best to consult with your account manager to get the latest info.

  1. Getting to the optimization part, it’s best to separate top-performing zones and feeds for maximum ROI.

  1. Budget caps follow next, set them up at your own discretion to prevent overspending. RollerAds specialists entered $50 daily and $500 in total.

  1. Whitelists and blacklists tend to change quickly, so stay in touch with your AM to get the latest data. Of course, you can always explore zones and feeds manually to exclude the underperforming ones.

  1. Keep on narrowing down your targeting settings, depending on your offer’s KPIs (like devices, OSs, their versions, etc.).

  1. Don’t forget to limit your browser targeting, if it’s specified in your offer’s terms and conditions or you have your own data.

  1. Save changes to initiate the process of moderation and launch a campaign.

Campaign Optimization

Fast forwarding the moderation process, we get to the optimization part. If you want to know more about RollerAds moderation, refer to their dedicated article. Based on the whitelist (and blacklist) of traffic sources, provided by an account manager, zones and feeds were optimized.

Day 1:

During the first day, the team focused on turning off the most glaring zones, bringing in lots of clicks and little-to-no leads, let alone conversions.

A couple of zones generated very few clicks, but a handful of users behind them got engaged and contributed to the leads counter, suggesting that the team hit the right audience. Still, it was too early to draw conclusions, so such zones remained active but under close-up scrutiny.

The first day of the campaign ended up in red, but these losses can be justified since the optimization was far from over. In fact, it was a relatively small loss of $14, so the team went on.

Day 2:

In terms of optimization strategy, day 2 was no different from its predecessor: turn off immediately all the zones with poor conversion rates (CR).

Same as before, few clicks but a bunch of leads, contributing to a relatively high conversion rate from clicks to leads: such zones were kept on and top performers were entitled to custom bids.

After that, the team optimized OS versions, discovering a zone that brought zero conversions over the course of two days: it was disabled.

Day 2 resulted in a net profit of $1.66. It was not much, but that was a promising start, giving way to day 3.

Day 3:

Continuing with the optimization routine, the team focused on filtering pre-landers to keep top performers only. Using the data obtained, it was decided to use the most converting pre-landing page.

The positive effect followed shortly after, resulting in an increased profit of almost $32 by the end of day 3.

Summing things up, the net income over the course of 3 days was about $20. Keep in mind that this was just the beginning of optimization, meaning there was still potential to increase profit.

Wrapping Up

Direct Click capitalizes on high-traffic areas of a website. Depending on your vertical of choice, they can match the user’s intent perfectly and spark their interest. This ad format works well even in such highly competitive GEOs as the USA, but you do need to fine-tune your campaign settings to cut the costs.
