How to create a landing page? Part 1

myWhat is a landing page if you're in the publishing business? Here's a primer. When a person clicks on an ad, they're taken to a single web page. What's the point of this? There are many advantages of having a landing page as an affiliate publisher. Let's take a closer look at them.

Constructing a successful landing page doesn't need to be complicated. By using our help, you could save yourself tens of thousands of dollars, although it may take some effort and time.

QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING YOURSELF BEFORE CREATING A LANDING PAGE

Before you even start creating your landing page, answer the following questions:

What is your target group?

The design of the page will be contingent upon the intended viewers; if it is women, incorporate softer, pastel-like colors, and if it is men, opt for a more muted and darker palette. Creating a user profile on the website will aid in understanding their desires and making the necessary changes to the website.

What is it about, and what should users find there?

When making decisions about design and domain name, these queries offer some responses. It is critical to keep in mind the mantra "less is more" as an excessive number of alternatives could lead to disarray and cause users to abandon the website.

What is the purpose of your website?

This question will be helpful when you are creating and picking a template. Reflect on what should be put on the website and how the user will gain from it. Consider what people want and how you can offer it to them. Also, contemplate the services that you can furnish them.

How much time and money do you want to spend?

This inquiry will provide advice in choosing the most suitable hosting and domain and whether to employ a pre-made template or start from scratch.

LANDING PAGE - HOSTING CHOICE

What is a hosting?

It is critical to select a proper hosting solution before you create a landing page for your website, as this will influence how quickly users can access it and the probability of them staying and revisiting it. If the loading time is lengthy, they may become frustrated and switch to another website. Thus, if you choose to host your website on a computer, it will be available for viewing throughout the year since the computer will be running as a server continually.

Here are some websites where you can purchase hosting: siteground.comfastcomet.comhostinger.com.

When you are just beginning, a user-friendly and navigable server control panel is essential. In such a case, a shared server is often a good pick. However, as your website progresses, consider upgrading to a more capable server in order to manage more information and provide better performance. Neglecting the right hosting choice could cause a lot of issues.

How much does a hosting cost?

The expense of hosting can range from nearly $2 to around $15 per month, depending on the size of the page and the server resources required for the website. This is contingent on the number of tabs, documents, and other aspects included in the page.

LANDING PAGE - CHOOSING A DOMAIN

What is a domain?

When looking for a web page, you enter the address into the web browser, commonly referred to as a domain. These domains are unique, and no one else can use them. If you take a peek at the top of the Google page, you will see our domain - mylead.global.

When setting up an online business, it is critical to have a strong base. A memorable domain name should be chosen, and keeping it straightforward and catchy is best. For those in the UK, the .uk extension is likely the superior option, whereas, for those targeting a worldwide audience, the .com extension is the most recognizable.

Here are some websites where you can buy a domain: Namecheap.comregery.comovh.pl.

When looking for a domain name, many will come across advice that suggests including a keyphrase in the address to get better search engine results. This is, to some extent, true, but using the phrase as the whole domain (e.g. shoesforgym.com) is not a great idea. It is hard to be promoted on Google or other search engines when competing with all the gym shoe manufacturers. Moreover, users will have to wade through ads when looking for the website. Thus, selecting a domain with your name or incorporating it with a key phrase, for instance, topbestshoes.com is a better approach.

Free your creativity and come up with a title for your homepage. Remember that some titles could already be taken. You can use services such as atthost.pl to check if a domain name you have considered is available.

How much does it cost to buy a domain?

The pricing for domain registration can be very different, with a variation of anywhere from $3 to $20 per month. What you pay is based on the firm you register with, the chosen domain name, the domain's extension, and the past of the domain.

LANDING PAGE - WORDPRESS INSTALLATION

This article is geared towards examining the procedure of launching a website with WordPress as an example. Sites such as Mobirise, Wix, Zyro, etc., that offer pre-made designs, though convenient, offer a more limited variety of choices. For more intricate websites, it is preferable to construct it all from the start. Setting up

WP is speedy and easy, so you can take it easy. If you decide to do a manual installation, you need to download the files and upload them onto the server.

Step 1 - Download WordPress

The first step in setting up your own online website is to download the WordPress installation package.

Step 2 - Unpack the files

After downloading, click on the downloaded .zip archive:

Then open the WordPress folder:

Within the 19 documents in the folder, you should look for the wp-config-sample.php file, copy it to the same directory, and change its name to wp-config.php. As suggested by its title, this file is a part of the standard WordPress set-up. Therefore, it includes certain sections that you will need to fill out with your own details, which we'll cover in a moment.

Step 3 - Create a MySQL database

Before we are able to set up WordPress on the host, a MySQL database must be created. This is because WordPress utilizes a database structure.

No matter what the computer program is, data is always collected and stored in different ways. MySQL is an incredibly powerful database that can process a large number of queries. To utilize this feature, the MySQL Databases page in Hostinger must be accessed by going to Hosting → Manage → MySQL Databases. Once on this page, users have full control of managing their MySQL databases.

Choose the website name to which the database will be assigned from the left drop-down menu:

To create a new MySQL Database and Database User, input the database name, username and password, and then click on the "Create" button.

Once it is complete, the recently generated database will be linked to the chosen domain and will appear in the List of Current MySQL Databases And Users section, where it can be managed.

Step 4 - Complete the wp-config.php file with data

At this juncture, the previous wp-config.php document and data from the database established in stage 3 are required.

If you are using Windows, you can open the wp-config file in Notepad++, and if you are using macOS, you can do so in TextEdit.

In step 3, locate and substitute the highlighted values with the name of the database you established, the username, and the appropriate password.

Once you have changed all the above-mentioned information, remember to save the file.

Important:

  1. Apostrophes should not be taken away! Values should be typed in between the ' ' quotes.

  2. The label of the database and the user is not only indicated by the value inserted in the display on the server but also by the underline (the screenshots show us that the label for the database and user will be in the following format: name_enteredvalue).

  3. When the term 'localhost' is searched, it is the database server's address and is usually left in its field. But certain hosting companies ask for a different address. If you get the message 'Error establishing a database connection' during installation, look at the card given in Step 3. If there is no data, contact the server administrator for the address that should replace localhost.

Step 5 - Configuration of connection to the server in FileZilla

The preparatory work is almost finished. The only thing left to do is to upload the files to the server. FileZilla is a great program for this purpose.

Before initiating the transfer of files, it is essential to create a connection to the server. Here is the procedure for setting up the connection:

  1. You should be able to find the communication from your hosting company which contains the FTP address, login, and password information. If it is not present, contact the administrator to obtain the FTP address of the server and create a user.

  2. Use FileZilla to create a new connection, select File > Site Manager > New Address. Give the address a relevant name (such as a website or blog name), and afterwards, fill in the remaining fields.

    • Server: enter the link to the server that starts with ftp.servername.com,

    • Protocol: FTP - file transfer protocol,

    • Encryption: if available, use direct FTP over TLS,

    • Logging mode: normal,

    • User: FTP username,

    • Password: password, (it's important to make it difficult, so it's worth using a password generator).

  3. Click "Connect".

Step 6 - Uploading files to the server

Once you've completed all the steps and confirmed the data is correct, you can gain access to the server. The right part of the FileZilla interface will be highlighted, and the windows below will display the folders and files. It's important to remember that you can't just put files anywhere. They must be placed in the public_html subfolder, which is usually inside the directory of your website's address. If it cannot be found, try searching for "www".

To access the top FTP directory, navigate to domains -> domainname.com -> public_html/www. However, the exact file path may differ depending on the web hosting company. In case you are still unable to locate the relevant folder, kindly reach out to the customer service of your web hosting provider.

When you have completed the removal of all documents from the directory, identify the WordPress folder and documents in the left-side window of FileZilla. Select all the items, excluding wp-config-sample.php, and move them to the window on the right. This will start the transfer automatically. You will be sending your website to the World Wide Web. When you get a warning about replicas, select the "Change" option and press "Ok". The transfer should take a few minutes, depending on your internet speed. After the procedure is done, disconnect from the server.

Step 7 - Installing WordPress

In a few moments, you will be the owner of your website. No matter what web browser you are using - Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, or something else - just type in the website address in the search bar. If it does not automatically redirect you to the URL: http://yourebsite.com/wp-admin/install.php, manually enter it, making sure to replace “yourebsite.com” with your domain name. When you press enter, the following page should be displayed.

  • Site title - enter the name of your website, not the address

  • Username when logging in as an administrator, it is recommended to select a username that is not "admin" or "administrator", as these are the most widely known and easily guessed logins.

  • Password - be creative. The password should be hard to hack (you can use the online generator),

  • Email address - an email with login details and address will be sent to this address,

  • Visibility - if you'd like to keep your page from being seen by random people, make sure to check the box beside "visibility for search engines" in the tab: Settings -> Reading. Don't forget to uncheck this once you've published the page, which is located at the base of the screen.

When all the details have been filled out, press the "Install WordPress" button. In a few minutes, your website will be up and running. You will then be able to log in with your user credentials and begin creating content.
